Vegan DHA – Omega-3 fatty acids from sustainably farmed algae
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for our health. The most important omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) are mainly found in oily fish. If you have a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, a shortage of these omega-3 is quickly lurking.
Our product Vegan DHA helps you to supplement the important omega-3 fatty acids in a completely plant-based way. The omega-3 fatty acids in this product are extracted from sustainably farmed algae.
- 400 mg DHA per serving (2 capsules)
- With natural vitamin E to protect against oxidation
- No contamination due to cultivation in a closed system
- 100% plant-based and sustainably grown
The extraction of our algae oil from algae
For the production of our high quality vegan DHA, the algae species Schizochytrium is used. These algae are grown in a controlled environment, where all factors such as temperature, nutrition and CO2 are closely monitored. By growing the algae in a strictly controlled environment, no contamination occurs.
When the algae are fully grown, they contain a relatively large amount of algae oil that is rich in DHA. To get the DHA out of the algae, they are first fermented. A similar process also takes place when making beer or kombucha.
Once fermentation is complete, the algae oil is extracted from the algae by fragmentation and centrifugation. The algae oil extracted from this process contains 40% DHA of which we use 500 mg per capsule.
Benefits of Vegan DHA over Fish Oil
What many people think is that vegan DHA is only suitable for people with a vegan lifestyle. However, this is a misconception, as vegan DHA is an excellent choice for anyone who is environmentally conscious and wants to take good care of their body. It has many advantages over regular fish oil. We have listed the most important advantages of this plant-based DHA for you:
-
No toxic substances – Fish oil can contain contamination such as heavy metals and dioxins. The algae we use are grown in a closed system, which means no contamination occurs.
- No burping – Because algae oil has a neutral taste, you will not suffer from burping after taking it. This prevents the unpleasant “fish burps” that you can have with fish oil.
- Helps against overfishing – No fish are used to produce algae oil. By using algae oil instead of fish oil, you help to prevent overfishing.
- Sustainable production – Algae production is sustainable and falls under biomass. Nowadays, algae is relatively cheap and easy to grow, making it a sustainable source of biomass.
- No difference in effectiveness – The DHA in algae oil works in the body in exactly the same way as fish oil. So no concessions are made in terms of effectiveness.
